For 12 years, Campus Technology has showcased colleges and universities that are innovating with technology on campus, doing important work in the service of teaching, learning, administration and operations. This year with the new Impact Awards, Campus Technology is broadening the scope of this recognition to include both cutting-edge and well established projects.

"The Campus Technology Impact Awards build on our 12-year history of honoring colleges and universities for their work with technology in higher education," said Rhea Kelly, executive editor of Campus Technology. "We are excited to recognize projects large and small that have made their mark both on campus and on the higher ed community."

Nominations must be submitted by April 10th and will be reviewed by the Impact Awards Judging Committee of higher ed tech leaders, with final winners selected by our expert team of editors. For each winning project, Campus Technology will recognize the institution, the project lead and the technologies involved in making the initiative a success.

All winners will be featured in the October issue of our digital magazine and with an in-depth project profile in one of our e-newsletters. Winners will be announced on our website (https://campustechnology.com) on August 1st.

1105 Media's Live From Campaign Wins Folio: Marketing Award for Use of Social Media

Dallas, TX, December 7, 2016 -- 1105 Media's Live From program has been named a 2016 Top 20 Marketing Campaign Winner in the Folio: Marketing Awards competition. Live From won in the Use of Social Media category. The Folio: Marketing Awards recognize the year's best in pioneering, inventive, and ultimately successful projects undertaken by the media industry's most innovative marketing professionals.

Conceived by 1105 Media's Infrastructure Solutions Group, Live From was created to establish group brands Occupational Health & Safety and Security Today as social media leaders and solidify their positions as thought leaders in their industries. The program provides an interactive way for both trade show attendees and non-attendees to experience the highlights of top industry events.

"Being named a winner of this award is truly an honor," said Susan May, group marketing director for 1105 Media's Infrastructure Solutions Group. "Our team is continuously looking for new ways to engage our audience, and Live From has proven to be a fun, timely way to generate excitement about industry events. In addition, both our editors' and our brands' Twitter and Facebook followings have seen large increases over the past year."

Matt Holden, group social media editor for the Infrastructure Solutions Group, coordinated on-site coverage for the Live From events. "It was great to be on hand to shoot and immediately post live video from sponsors' booths, to cover networking events, and to draw attention to must-see products and services," he said. "After the show, sponsors and viewers kept the excitement alive by continuing to post."

"Live From is seen as very new and cutting edge to our audience while at the same time being just the type of program that a social media leader such as our brands would launch," added Kevin O'Grady, president & group publisher of 1105 Media's Infrastructure Solutions Group. "We just launched Live From with our HME Business brand last month. As the program grows, we plan to expand it to include even more ways for companies to be involved."

FCW's reporting of FedRAMP is a great example of that, so I'm thrilled that the FOLIO judges recognized the quality and importance of that coverage," said Troy K. Schneider, editor-in-chief of FCW and GCN. "GCN's award for legacy IT feature is a great honor as well; we also received honorable mentions in three additional categories, so the judges obviously saw what our readers have long known: FCW and GCN consistently deliver outstanding coverage of public-sector IT."

2016 Campus Technology and THE Journal “Teaching with Technology” Survey Results Announced

Research: Educators Enthusiastic about Technology ... with Exceptions

(VIENNA, VA., September 14, 2016)— 1105 Public Sector Media Group is pleased to announce that the results of the 2016 Campus Technology and THE Journal "Teaching with Technology” surveys have been published.

In the inaugural Teaching with Technology surveys, Campus Technology readers (primarily higher education educators) and THE Journal readers (primarily K-12 educators) were asked to provide their feedback for the technologies they use in the classroom. The pioneering surveys allowed Campus Technology and THE Journal's editors to explore educators' preferences, level of confidence in their abilities, belief in technology as a teaching and learning tool and their outlook for the future.

The two research studies found that, on the whole both K-12 teachers and college/university faculty members value technology both as a tool for teaching and learning and as a means of making their jobs easier.

In the K-12 survey, a full 92 percent of respondents said technology has positively affected their ability to teach, and 88 percent of them favor schools providing devices to all students. Eighty-fiver percent said tech has made their jobs "easier” or "much easier.” The K-12 survey included 1,307 qualified respondents, 84 percent of whom work for public school systems.

On the higher education side, 77 percent of respondents said tech has made their work "easier” or "much easier.” Eighty-eight percent said technology has positively impacted their ability to teach. The higher education survey included 524 qualified respondents, 69 percent of whom work for public institutions.

"We surveyed faculty members across the country to find out how they feel about technology in the classroom, what devices are most valuable for teaching and learning, their wish lists and gripes, their outlook on the future and more,” said Rhea Kelly, executive editor of Campus Technology. "Overall, their responses revealed a positive outlook on technology — but also provided a reminder that education must be the core goal of any tech initiative on campus."

"There's a perception out there that teachers are either unwilling or unable to use technology in the classroom. But our 2016 Teaching with Technology report finds just the opposite,” said David Nagel, editor-in-chief of THE Journal. "Teachers are willing, eager and able to adopt technologies that improve teaching and learning.”

The surveys also cover:

  • Technologies teachers most value
  • Technologies on educators' wish lists
  • Use of hybrid or blended models
  • Assignment of technology-based homework
  • Technologies teachers most detest. (Mobile phones and learning management systems topped the lists!)

The full results of the Teaching with Technology Survey appear in the August/September digital issue of Campus Technology: https://campustechnology.com/currentissue and in the September issue of THE Journal: https://thejournal.com/currentissue.
