MCLEAN, VA, Jun 14, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 1105 Public Sector Media Group is pleased to introduce the Government Innovation Awards and announce that nominations for 2018 are now being accepted.

The 2018 Government Innovation Awards, presented by GCN, FCW, Washington Technology and Defense Systems, recognize government IT's disruptors, innovators and emerging leaders who have transformed government agencies through new technologies and innovative ways of weaving IT into critical missions.

"Public-sector tech is far cooler than the government often gets credit for," GCN Editor-in-Chief Troy K. Schneider said. "With the Government Innovation Awards, we get to give credit where credit is due and recognize those who are really reinventing government."

These awards cover three different categories:

  • Public Sector Innovations:  Transformative tech projects being deployed or tested in government at the federal, state or local level.
  • Industry Innovators:  The contractor firms that are advancing the technologies critical to tomorrow's government.
  • Rising Stars:  Individual awards for outstanding early-career leaders in both government and industry.

Any tech-driven innovation in government is eligible, but the 2018 Government Innovation Awards focus on six distinct areas of IT:

  • AI/Analytics/Automation
  • Digital Transformation
  • Cybersecurity
  • IoT & Smart Cities
  • Cloud/Infrastructure
  • Unmanned Systems

Nominations for the 2018 awards are now being accepted at http://GovernmentInnovationAwards.com with a submission deadline of July 6.

Winners will be announced in late August, profiled in 1105 Public Sector Media Group's publications this fall, and recognized in person at the Nov. 8 Government Innovation Awards celebration at the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons.

Washington Technology Announces 2018 Top 100: Celebrating 25 Years of Annual Rankings

MCLEAN, VA, Jun 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Washington Technology, an 1105 Media Inc. brand,  has released its annual Top 100 rankings of the largest companies selling IT and other technology products and services to the federal government. For the second year in a row there is a new No. 1 company -- General Dynamics Corp.

GD captured the top spot with $7.3 billion in prime contracts during fiscal 2017. GD's rise from No. 6 in 2017 to No. 1 in 2018 is thanked in a large part by its acquisition of CSRA earlier this year.

Last year's No. 1, Leidos Inc., moved down to the No. 2 spot. Leidos displaced Lockheed Martin, which had held the No. 1 position for 22 years, but sold the bulk of its IT services business to Leidos in 2016.
The annual rankings are based on an analysis of procurement data from the Federal Procurement Data System. Agencies assign codes to all of their spending and Washington Technology uses codes that best represent IT, systems integration, telecommunications, research and develop and professional services to analyze the data and create the rankings.

"The rankings are a great barometer for how the market is changing and how the companies are evolving," said Washington Technology Editor-in-chief Nick Wakeman.

Some of the major trends represented in the Top 100 include a resurgence in large acquisitions, the importance of IT modernization, and more firms embracing strategies built around presenting customers with solutions rather than just services.

The 2018 Top 100 is the 25th annual rankings Washington Technology has produced since publishing the first Top 100 in 1994.

"Obviously, the market has changed a tremendous amount since then," Wakeman said. "But the 25th annual rankings also tell us that more change is underway right now with robust M&A activity and companies developing solutions around the cloud and mobility as well as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning."

Join Washington Technology's webcast on June 20th as they explore the 2018 annual rankings of the largest prime contractors in the federal market. Visit http://washingtontechnology.com to find out more.
